Andrew, Monk of Constantinople
monk; correspondent of Theodoret of Cyrrhus and Isidore of Pelusium|Constantinople
Andrew is named as the recipient of several letters within the fifth-century correspondence of Theodoret of Cyrrhus and Isidore of Pelusium, but he is otherwise little attested and cannot be securely identified with any prominent figure of the period. He is known chiefly as a monk addressed by these correspondents, which places him in the eastern Roman monastic and theological milieu of the first half of the fifth century, very likely in or around Constantinople and the dioceses of Syria and Egypt where Theodoret and Isidore were active. No reliable dates, offices, or biographical events are recorded for him beyond his appearance as a correspondent, so any fuller portrait would be speculative.
