Claudius Terentianus

Claudius Terentianus

Roman fleet soldier and papyrus letter writer|Alexandria and the Roman camp at Nicopolis, Egypt
Claudius Terentianus was an early second-century Egyptian serving in the Roman military world, first in the Alexandrian fleet and later seeking advancement into a cohort. His letters preserve rare documentary correspondence from Roman Egypt in Latin and Greek, full of requests for clothing, equipment, recommendations, money, legal registration help, and news from home. P.Mich. VIII 481 shows him writing to Tasoucharion about baskets, oil, emmer, greetings, and practical household exchange.
