Letter 1024

Gregory the Great (Wisigothic)Unknown|gregory great
From: Pope Gregory I
To: Anthemius, Subdeacon
Date: ~591 AD
Context: Gregory orders Anthemius to provide stipends to certain women religious, a presbyter, and two monks

I am directing you to arrange payment of the stipends specified: to the handmaids of God in question, to the presbyter Paulinus, and to the two monks in the relevant community. These are not discretionary payments — they are obligations this see has undertaken, and the people in question are depending on them. Make the disbursement promptly, keep a proper record, and confirm to me when it has been done.
