Letter 11053
Gregory the Great (Wisigothic)→Unknown|gregory great
From: Pope Gregory I
To: Anthemius, Subdeacon of Campania
Date: ~601 AD
Context: Gregory orders Anthemius to press Paschasius, bishop of Naples, on a matter of neglected duty
I am not satisfied with the response — or rather, the lack of response — from Bishop Paschasius on the matter I previously communicated. I am therefore asking you to go to him in person and press the issue. Do not accept vague assurances or polite deflections; ask him directly what action he has taken and when he intends to complete it. The neglect of a bishop's duties is not a small matter, and continued inaction on his part will require more formal intervention from this see. Report back to me with his answer in full.
