Letter 5090

Gregory the Great (Wisigothic)Unknown|gregory great
From: Gregory the Great, Pope, in Rome
To: Eulogius, Bishop of Alexandria, and Anastasius, Bishop of Antioch
Date: ~595 AD
Context: Gregory writes jointly to the two Eastern patriarchs — Book 5 version.

Gregory to his most holy brothers Eulogius of Alexandria and Anastasius of Antioch.

I write again to maintain the connection between our sees. The unity of the church across the vast distances that separate Alexandria, Antioch, and Rome is sustained in part by exactly this kind of ongoing correspondence — the demonstration that the leaders of the church are aware of each other, care about each other, and are working toward the same ends.

If there are matters of concern in your regions that I should be aware of, write to me. I will do the same. The world is changing rapidly and the church must be prepared to respond together.
