Letter 9084

Gregory the Great (Wisigothic)Unknown|gregory great
From: Gregory the Great, Pope, in Rome
To: Benenatus, Bishop of Tindari [Sicily]
Date: ~599 AD
Context: Gregory directs Benenatus to consecrate an oratory in honor of Saints Severinus and Juliana.

Gregory to Benenatus, bishop of Tindari.

An oratory has been prepared in honor of the holy Severinus and the holy Juliana. I direct you to consecrate it.

Perform the consecration carefully and with the reverence the occasion demands. The dedication of places of prayer to the saints is a good work for the whole community; do it in a way that honors both the saints and the community that will pray there.
