Pope Pelagius I to Bishop Agnellus of Ravenna. The Apostle Paul's teaching against those who err and trouble the Church calls for decisive action. We therefore instruct you that if the schismatic bishops — who refuse to accept the condemnation of the Three Chapters — have not within ten days come to their senses and submitted to Catholic communion, they are to be dealt with by the full canonical procedure. We are not willing to allow this situation to continue indefinitely. The peace and unity of the Church demand a resolution, and your episcopal authority, backed by our full support, is sufficient to the task.
