Context: A warm letter praising Caesarius, the most important bishop in Gaul, and expressing delight at hearing from him through the priest Capillutus.

Bishop Ruricius to his holy and apostolic brother, Bishop Caesarius — to be honored and loved above all others.

Our brother and fellow priest Capillutus has doubly pleased us on this visit: he himself was long desired and has now arrived, and he has brought a kind of presence of you to us through your letter. As he returns, I send these words back.
