Letter 100

Theodoret of CyrrhusAlexandra|c. 440 AD|theodoret cyrrhus

To Alexandra.

I have recently received your Excellency's letter, and for the zeal you have shown on my behalf I give you my warmest thanks. I pray the God of all to keep the goods you have, to increase them with further gifts, and to grant you the enjoyment of future and everlasting blessings. I believe that he hears the prayers even of those sentenced to confinement — and all the more when it is for the sake of his divine teaching that they are enduring what appears to be disgrace.

I am writing through the devout bishops, and I ask that they may receive your kind attention. It is for the sake of the faith of the Gospel and the peace of the churches that they have undertaken this long journey.
