Letter 5015: Item ad eundem de commendatione peregrini
Recommending a Pilgrim to Gregory
Good man, attaining the summit of your honor by your merits, noble support, episcopal head — whom your rank and your genius, enriched by the fruit of piety, worthily raise higher as God increases you:
That this man who serves you may be remembered by you with kindly love — the humble servant of Fortunatus asks you, father. Let this pilgrim also rejoice, highest bishop, to have earned you as his shepherd and his homeland.
Modern English rendering for readability. See the 19th-century translation or original Latin/Greek for scholarly use.
