Letter 12011

Gregory the Great (Wisigothic)Unknown|gregory great
From: Pope Gregory I
To: Constantine, Bishop of Scodra
Date: ~602 AD
Context: Gregory transmits earlier letters and gives further instructions

I am sending you, under the cover of this letter, copies of the correspondence I have previously sent concerning the matters at hand. Read them carefully, for they contain instructions that remain in force. Additionally, I must add to them the following: if, in the course of carrying out my earlier directives, you encounter any resistance or difficulty that your own authority is insufficient to overcome, do not hesitate to write to me directly. Some situations require the weight of this see to resolve what local authority cannot. Act on what I have already written, and await further guidance on what remains pending.

Modern English rendering for readability. See the 19th-century translation or original Latin/Greek for scholarly use.
