Letter 4084

Gregory the Great (Wisigothic)Unknown|gregory great
From: Pope Gregory I
To: Maximianus, Bishop of Syracuse
Date: ~594 AD
Context: Gregory orders the return of Euplos's paternal and maternal inheritance

I am directing you to ensure that the goods belonging to Euplos — the inheritances from both his father and his mother — are returned to him in full. These are his by right of inheritance, and whatever has been withholding them from him does so without just cause. Euplos deserves what is his, and the Church's administrators are not to be parties to the withholding of legitimate inheritance. Act on this without delay and confirm to me when it is done.
