Letter 9175

Gregory the Great (Wisigothic)Unknown|gregory great
From: Pope Gregory I
To: Eulogius, Patriarch of Alexandria
Date: ~599 AD
Context: Gregory reports on the successfully completed business of a letter-bearer; also mentions relics

My beloved brother, I am glad to report that the business brought to us by the bearer of your last letter has been favorably resolved. I know you had concerns about the outcome, and I hope the news reaches you before your worry has had too much time to work on you. Additionally, I am able to send you at last the relic of the chain [catena] that you had asked for. It is carried by the messenger you know, and I ask you to receive it with the devotion it deserves. May it be a blessing to you and to the faithful of your great church. My prayers are with you daily.
