Date: ~599 AD
Context: Gregory commends the deacon of Bishop Marinianus of Ravenna

The bearer of this letter is the deacon of Marinianus, bishop of Ravenna, who has come to Constantinople on behalf of his bishop. I ask you to receive him well and to assist him in whatever brings him to you. The bishop of Ravenna and this see are closely connected, and any kindness done to his representative is a kindness done to us as well. Please use whatever access and goodwill you have built at the imperial court on his behalf.
