Letter 403

LibaniusΘεμιστίῳ|libanius

To Themistios. (355 AD)

Klematios reported to us that certain people are making their usual bold attacks against you, sparing no word. I was not consoled by the fact that this is customary so much as pained that they refuse to stop so unjust a thing.

I was stung, and took no pleasure in being beyond the range of their arrows — I grieved instead at not being present with a friend. I believe, however, that your situation is not so dire now that the excellent Olympios has arrived — a good judge, one who votes freely, who defeats the wrongdoer and stands with those who have been wronged. As for our affairs, he has made them great, and he will report to you what he has done.
