Letter 866

To the Same. I have come to know certain spiritual brothers who pray and sing psalms, and who ask that certain gifts be furnished to them from heaven, and who serve their neighbors, and who apply themselves eagerly to the work of their hands, together with not neglecting reading as well, at certain appointed hours; and on every side they flourish and teem with manifold virtues.

Ἔγνων τινὰς ἀδελφοὺς πνευματικούς, οἵτινες εὔχονται, καὶ ψάλλουσι, καὶ τῖνα αἰτοῦσι δωρήματα ἐξ οὐρανοῦ χορηγηθῆναι αὐτοῖς, καὶ τοῖς πλησίον ἀ υπηρετοῦσι, καὶ πρὸς τὴν ἐργασίαν τῶν χειρῶν προθυμοῦνται, μετὰ τοῦ μὴ ἀμελεῖν καὶ τῆς ἀναγνώσεως, ὥραις τισὶ τεταγμέναις, καὶ πανταχόθεν ταῖς ποικίλαις ἀρεταῖς θάλλουσι τε καὶ βρύουσιν.
