Clematius
correspondent of Libanius|Antioch
Clematius is known chiefly as a correspondent of the orator Libanius of Antioch, who addressed seven surviving letters to him in the mid-to-later fourth century AD. The name Clematius is borne by more than one figure in Libanius's circle, and this individual cannot be securely identified beyond the correspondence itself; he was most likely a member of the educated curial or official class active in Antioch and the Syrian East, the milieu in which Libanius's letters circulated. No independent dates, offices, or biographical details are securely attested for him.
