Delphinus, of Bordeaux
bishop of Bordeaux|?-404 AD|Bordeaux
Delphinus was bishop of Bordeaux from roughly 380 until his death in 404, a leading figure in the Gallo-Roman church of the late fourth century. He baptized the aristocrat and future bishop Paulinus of Nola, who addressed him with deep filial affection in their surviving correspondence and regarded him as a spiritual father. Delphinus presided at the Council of Bordeaux (384/385), which examined the case of Priscillian and his followers, placing him at the center of one of the most consequential heresy disputes of the age. He stood within the wider circle of ascetic and episcopal reformers in Aquitaine that included Amandus, his successor at Bordeaux.
