Senate of Tyana

city council (curia/boule) of Tyana, Cappadocia|Tyana, Cappadocia (modern Kemerhisar, Turkey)
Not an individual but the city council (boule/curia) of Tyana, a city in southern Cappadocia (modern Kemerhisar, near Nigde, Turkey). In late antiquity Tyana was an important provincial center; under the emperor Valens (c. 371-372 AD) it briefly became the metropolis of the new province of Cappadocia Secunda, a division that fed the rivalry between its bishop and Basil of Caesarea. As a corporate body of local notables, the senate of Tyana appears here as the collective addressee of official and ecclesiastical correspondence rather than as a named person; its members are not individually identified in the letters.
