19. Ennodius to Faustus. Although every frequency of letters seems too rare for the anxious, and foresight does not suffice for one who is in suspense out of devotion, nevertheless that party to whom it is rendered, unless he replies, sets himself apart from human decency. Therefore, having first sent the duties of greeting, I declare that, by God's granting, both through the intercessions of the saints together with me and through your prayers, things are now going better, and that disease of despair and of fevers has cooled. Now, for what remains, I hope that you will, with your accustomed kindness, deign to take up my petition, which I sent through my fellow servant my brother Florus; for, even though for the present the matter seems to me to be one of advantage, to you, to whom future things are more at heart, the highest usefulness on this side corresponds.

XVIIII. ENNODIVS FAVSTO. Quamuis omnis frequentia litterarum uideatur rara sollicitis nec sufficiat prouidentia pro pietate suspenso, tamen pars ista, cui inpenditur, nisi responderit, ab humanitate seiungitur. ergo salutationis officia praefatus deo tribuente indico mecum sanctorum suffrages et uestris precibus iam melius agi et illam despsrationis et febrium intepuisse ualitudinem. nunc, quod restat, spero, ut petitionem meam, quam per confamulum meum fratrem Florum destinaui, suscipere solita. benignitate dignemini, quia, etsi mihi ad praesens res uidetur esse conpendii, uobis, quibus magis futura cordi sunt, utilitas ex hac parte summa respondet.
