Letter 6042: **From:** Gregory I, Bishop of Rome

To Bishop Victor. That he should ordain a presbyter in the monastery. Gregory to Victor, bishop of Palermo. Urbicus, abbot of the monastery of Saint Hermes, which is situated at Palermo, has earnestly petitioned us, together with his congregation, that a presbyter be ordained in that same monastery, one who is to celebrate the sacred solemnities of the masses; and because a petition of this kind ought not to be deferred, we have judged it necessary to exhort your Fraternity by the present writing, that the man who shall be elected for this ministry from that same congregation, whose life, character, and conduct can befit so great a ministry, ought, without delay and with the Lord's help, to be consecrated, to the end that he may not be compelled on this account to go out of his monastery, nor to bring in an outsider to himself to perform the sacred work.
