Letter 9096

Gregory the Great (Wisigothic)Unknown|gregory great
From: Gregory the Great, Pope, in Rome
To: Marinianus, Bishop of Ravenna
Date: ~599 AD
Context: Gregory commends to Marinianus the same people he had previously commended — apparently they need a further word of support.

Gregory to Marinianus, bishop of Ravenna.

I find myself writing to you again on behalf of the same people I wrote about before. Their situation still requires your support, and my earlier request has apparently not yet been fully acted on.

I ask you again: receive them favorably. Give them the assistance their situation requires. They have nowhere else to turn, and the church's reputation for honoring its commitments is partly maintained by following through on the bishop's word when that word has been given.

I trust this will be done.
Gregory
