To Maximus. (358/59) This old man Heraclius, who has suffered many evils, not on account of your magistracy, for the Phocian war came before the public career of Demosthenes, but on account of those who readily throttle whomever they wish, has come to you having made the labor a shorter one through the efforts that have been made on his behalf here, but holding the conclusion of the whole matter in the votes that rest with you. Make the end of it, then, a fine one, and grant the favor, in no way departing from what is just; for it would be absurd that the reputation I gained among the Armenians under the magistracy of Eutherius, that I was the sort of man able to give help, should be destroyed for me under the governorship of the noble Maximus.

Μαξίμῳ. (358/59) Ὁ γέρων οὗτος Ἡράκλειος ὁ πολλὰ κακὰ παθών, οὐ διὰ τὴν σὴν ἀρχήν, πρὸ γὰρ τῆς Δημοσθένους πολιτείας ὁ Φωκικὸς πόλεμος, ἀλλὰ διὰ τοὺς ῥᾳδίως ὃν ἂν ἐθέλωσιν ἄγχοντας, ἥκει βραχύτερον μέν σοι πεποιηκὼς τὸν πόνον τοῖς ἐνταῦθα ἐσπουδασμένοις, τὴν τελευτὴν δὲ τοῦ παντὸς ἐν ταῖς παρὰ σοῦ ψήφοις ἔχων. ποίει δὴ καλὸν τὸ τέλος καὶ δίδου χάριν μηδὲν ἐκβαίνων τὸ δίκαιον· ὡς ἔστιν ἄτοπον ἣν ἄρχον- τος Εὐθηρίου δόξαν ἐν Ἀρμενίοις ἐκτησάμην, ὡς οἷός τ' εἴην βοηθεῖν, ταύτην ἐπὶ τῆς ἡγεμονίας Μαξίμου τοῦ καλοῦ διαφθαρῆναί μοι.
