Letter 310

LibaniusEcdicius, friend|libanius

To Ecdicius. (361?)

I was pleased to learn that your administration continues to win praise. Good governors are rare enough that each one deserves to be celebrated, and you are among the best I have known. The province is fortunate to have you, and I am fortunate to count you as a friend.

The man who brings this letter has a matter requiring your attention. It involves a property dispute that has dragged on longer than it should have. Previous officials either could not or would not untangle it. I believe you can -- and will, once you see the merits of the case. He has documents that speak clearly; all he needs is a judge who will listen.

Be that judge, and add one more reason for the province to praise your name.
