To Silvanus.
I believe you already have advisors far better than any mortal could be, and by following them you have never once had cause to reproach yourself. But if you also need a human voice, you will hear most of what matters from Gymnasius. From me, I will say only this: I was delighted to see Gymnasius on his return.

Οἶμαι μέν σοι συμβούλους εἶναι πολὺ πάντων ἀνθρώ-
πων ἀμείνους, οἷς πειθόμενος οὐδὲν οὐδέποτε σαυτὸν ἐμέμψω·
εἰ δέ σοι δεῖ καὶ ἀνθρώπων φωνῆς, τὰ μὲν πολλὰ Γυμνασίου
πεύσῃ λέγοντος, παρ’ ἡμῶν δὲ τοσοῦτον εἰρήσεται, ὅτι Γυ-
