Letter 526

LibaniusAristainetus; and separately to Silanus|libanius

To Aristainetus.

Rufinus enjoyed something pleasant while he was with us -- he heard me speak. And I too took pleasure in watching Rufinus listen.

You will share in that pleasure when you hear him tell the tale. He has fine things to say about us, and also about the Boeotians -- namely, that they really are Boeotians [proverbially dull-witted; a witty jab at someone's lack of sophistication].

Modern English rendering for readability. See the 19th-century translation or original Latin/Greek for scholarly use.
