I thought it terrible not to greet you through the good Miccalus, but equally absurd to write at length when he is the one carrying the letter -- he knows my thoughts and can express them himself.
So I did not want to impose a long silence on him through the length of a letter. Let this note fulfill the duty of a greeting, and from Miccalus himself you will learn what I am doing -- and you will not blame yourself.
Ὑπερεχίῳ. (362)
Τό τε μὴ προσειπεῖν σε διὰ τοῦ χρηστοῦ Μικκάλου δει-
νὸν ἡγούμην τό τ’ αὖ μηκύνειν διὰ τούτου γράφοντα τῶν
ἀτόπων· οἶδέ τε γὰρ ἃ φρονῶ καὶ λέγειν ἂν δύναιτο.
οὔκ-
ουν ἠξίουν μακρὰν ποιεῖν ἐκείνῳ τὴν σιωπὴν ἐν τῷ μήκει
τῆς ἐπιστολῆς, ἀλλ’ αὕτη μέν σοι πληρούτω τῆς προσρήσεως
τὸν νόμον, παρ’ ἐκείνου δὲ πεύσῃ, τί ποιῶν οὐ μέμψῃ σαυτόν.
