Another letter from the same.

I rejoice that your vessel, tossed on the sea of this world by hostile and varied storms, has at last — with the Lord at the helm — put into the harbor of salvation. Anchored now in that faithful and tranquil haven, you are set above the surges of this treacherous, wicked, and bitter world. [The letter continues with an extended exhortation to perseverance in the new spiritual life, drawing on nautical imagery and Biblical examples of conversion. Ruricius warns against the temptation to look back — like Lot's wife — at the pleasures left behind, while encouraging the recipient with the promise of the rewards that await those who endure.]
