Faustus Albus
correspondent of Ennodius of Pavia|Italy
Faustus Albus ("Faustus the White," so distinguished from the better-known Faustus Niger) appears solely as a recipient of letters from Ennodius, deacon and later bishop of Pavia (Ticinum), writing in Ostrogothic Italy in the late fifth and early sixth centuries AD. He belonged to the senatorial and ecclesiastical milieu of Theoderic's kingdom in which Ennodius moved, but he is otherwise little attested in his own right; what can be said of him is inferred from the six letters addressed to him, in which Ennodius cultivates a literary friendship typical of the period. He should not be confused with Flavius Anicius Probus Faustus Niger, the prominent praetorian prefect and consul who was Ennodius's far more prominent correspondent.
