Orion

correspondent of Isidore of Pelusium|Pelusium
Orion is known only as the recipient of five letters from Isidore of Pelusium, the ascetic and prolific letter-writer active in the eastern Nile Delta in the first half of the 5th century AD. Like many of Isidore's named correspondents, he is otherwise little attested and cannot be securely identified; recipients in Isidore's corpus include grammarians, clergy, monks, and local notables of the Pelusium region, and Orion is plausibly one such figure in Isidore's circle, though no office, dates, or biographical details are independently confirmed. Any identification with the grammarian Orion of the 5th-century Greek tradition is uncertain and should not be assumed.
