XXVIII. KING THEODERIC TO CARINUS, MOST ILLUSTRIOUS MAN [vir illustris, a high senatorial rank]. [1] The deserts of good men carry with them this glorious privilege: that those who become known for upright actions are not permitted to grow sluggish in idleness. And therefore, both to satisfy your wish and because we have judged you to be necessary to us, we summon you by the present orders, so that our service may be adorned by noble men, and that, through you, we may be able to dispatch those matters which we believe to be useful to us.
