Letter 149

To Theognostus. Perhaps you do not know, brother, that the law of God, when it is kept, is of its very nature able to keep and to guard and to shelter on every side those who are eager to keep it and to preserve it with sobriety [nepsis, watchful self-restraint].

Ἴσως ἀγνοεῖς, ἀδελφέ, ὅτι ὁ νόμος τοῦ Θεοῦ τηρούμενος, τηρεῖν καὶ φρουρεῖν, καὶ περισκέπειν πέφυκεν τοὺς τηρεῖν τοῦτον, καὶ φυλάττειν σὺν νήψει σπουδάζοντας.
