I have both heard what has happened and have been amazed - not so much at the apostate Nektarios as at the impious steward [oikonomos, the monastic official in charge of administration], whom the Lord has made an object of wonder, if indeed the report tells the whole truth in these evil days. But a struggle has crept over me concerning the seven, as I look anxiously to see how the matters touching them will turn out; for separating them out is a work of testing. May the Lord strengthen them to come through the assaults brought against them unwavering - not only them, but also all who have loved his manifestation, which is seen and venerated plainly in his image [eikon] of human form. You did well in announcing to us what was heard; for she is reckoned as our spiritual mother. Since likewise everyone who suffers in the same way is a father and a mother and a brother. We are anxious concerning Christ [written in the source as the abbreviation 'X'] just now, whom may the Lord bring along in soundness and in good order. We have received the things you sent. To the woman who remembered us give as a blessing the soft garment, and keep the contents for yourself; for we had nothing else ready at hand. Those here greet you; salute those who are with you on our behalf.
