How do you suppose I receive your gifts and your blessings [eulogiai, devotional tokens or consecrated offerings sent as a sign of communion], beloved man? Not even so many talents of gold would be sweeter for me to accept, because they come from an orthodox man, one who keeps the ancient love and has not been taken captive by communion with the heresy. This is also what greatly astonishes me: how in the midst of fire you remain unburned. But indeed you shall remain so still, by divine providence, so that you may bring to God the great gift of your own salvation. And I have been altogether comforted, and indeed I have called you blessed, because on a feast day you received the letter-carrier as a fellow guest at table in a foreign place and at a crowded table; in return for this the Lord will make you recline on that day [the Last Day] with Abraham and Isaac in everlasting gladness.
