You have done well, spiritual child, in writing to us, even if briefly, yet in such a way that your letter possesses a sufficient force of your good understanding and shows that, even if in your outward station you are but a young shoot in relation to us, you are not so in your manner of life. But you would also on other grounds rightly be joined to us as a son, since you are called a child of our brother and most God-beloved archbishop, and indeed his most genuine child; for to have become his attendant, alone out of the whole body of the clergy, and to contend together with him and to be persecuted together with those of the brethren who are preeminent, carries proof of great genuineness, and moreover of a mighty love toward God. For this reason we too, the lowly, both love you and care for you and number you in the register of our brotherhood.
