You yourself do not cease, in every letter, to praise us who are without merit; but we, perceiving our own true condition, groan rather than rejoice, since we are not such as you describe. Nevertheless we accept your faith, beloved child, from which also such words of yours proceed. As for the things you asked me to answer, I have indicated them in a separate note [pittakion, a short written memorandum] addressed in common to all; for there are many who ask the same things, and it is a labor for me to render an account to each one. But do you pray the more fervently for my lowliness, that I, the sinner, may be saved in the Lord. And again I have received your dispatches; and how long will you not desist? May the Lord altogether repay you for the things you love. He who is with me greets you; and I greet those who are with you.
