Letter 166: Zenobius asks you through me for help on behalf of his father.

To Cyril. (359/60) Zenobius makes a request of you through us on behalf of his father. The father is in Elusa, while the young man, here with us, is eager toward his friends and harsh toward his enemies. Let his concern for his parents be to you a proof that he has shared in education. If, then, you hear of him once he has come to you, you will honor him for his father's own sake; but in so far as he is absent according to my account of him, grant me this favor.

Κυρίλλῳ. (359/60) Δεῖταί σου δι’ ἡμῶν Ζηνόβιος ὑπὲρ τοῦ πατρός. ἔστι δὲ ὁ μὲν πατὴρ ἐν Ἐλούσῃ, παρ’ ἡμῖν δὲ ὁ νεανίσκος πρόθυμός τε περὶ τοὺς φίλους καὶ χαλεπὸς ἐχθροῖς. τοῦ δὲ αὐτῷ μετεῖ- ναι παιδείας ἔστω σοι σημεῖον ἡ περὶ τοὺς γονέας φροντίς. ἂν μὲν οὖν ἐπελθόντος ἀκούσῃς, δι’ αὐτὸν τὸν πατέρα τι- μήσεις· ἴως δὲ ἄπεστι κατὰ τοὺς λόγους, ἐμοὶ ταύτην δίδου τὴν χάριν.
