Letter 458

LibaniusThemistius, philosopher in Constantinople|libanius

To Themistius, philosopher in Constantinople. (355/356)

I expect the good Macedonius has told you about our struggles and about his responses to them. He was constantly thinking of you and missed nothing of our affairs.

But if you need to hear the exact words from me, I will write them. Eustathius was present when they were spoken, and Herennius was not absent. He said: "I make no accusation. But if the man has convinced himself that he has done wrong, when we meet, he will admit it."

That was his answer. As for you -- receive this man Agroicius kindly (he has come about the gold) and do not let him leave empty-handed.
