I have lately received a letter from Euscius, in which he reported that our charioteers and certain stage-performers had been put aboard ship and, in accordance with my instruction, dispatched to Campania. Let your Holiness therefore order the most diligent searchers to proceed as far as the shore of Salernum, so that, once the men have been received, they may escort them onward to Naples, or else look out for some sign of their arrival. I wish that Felix too, our mutual friend, be advised that, if they reach Campania safely, they be assisted with provisions and expenses, to be sent on to us by continuous sailing; for we ought, well in advance of the games, to train both these men and the horses themselves for being yoked together, and to draw the favor of the populace toward their novelty.
